Nurses Get “Zero Cost Work Permit” To Work in the UK’s NHS Hospitals

Zero Cost Work Permit

With the UK population growing older, living longer, and suffering from ever increasing range of conditions, the need for good quality staff and care has never been this higher. Britain’s healthcare industry is suffering from a shortage of 24,000 nurses according to the current statistics. This shortage is predicted to grow further for years ahead.

To clear the numbers of the nursing workforce, the number of nurses employed in the NHS is falling for the first time in three years. And also, the number of nurses is not in proportion to population growth.

Nurses per 100,000 populations in England declined from 604 in 2009 to 576 by 2016

It takes years to train a nurse, so increasing the number of UK training places does not help in the short term. This is the reason that the UK is now open for international recruitment.

The acute shortage of nurses in the UK and the implementation of Brexit mean that nurses outside the European country applying for work permit in the UK will be prioritized. They can be granted unlimited numbers of standard visas as long as their UK employer supports them.
